Are you worried your child isn’t hearing properly?

Does your child seem to ignore you or not respond when called?

Are they struggling with speech, behaviour, or learning at daycare or school? Have you noticed they turn up the volume on devices or frequently say “what”?

Hearing difficulties in young children are more common than you might think and they’re often mistaken for behavioural or attention issues.

Early help makes a big difference

Hearing Med Audiology specialises in hearing assessments for children aged 3 and over. Our clinic is child-friendly, calm, and designed to put little ones at ease.

We work closely with parents, GPs, ENTs, speech therapists and educators to detect and manage hearing concerns early before they begin affecting speech, learning or social development.

Unsure If a Hearing Test Is Needed?

It’s not always obvious when a child has hearing difficulties. They may:

  • Appear to "tune out"
  • Misunderstand simple instructions
  • Struggle with speech clarity
  • Get frustrated in group settings

Even mild hearing loss can affect learning and development - but it’s often very treatable when caught early.

We’re here to help, not to alarm. Testing is gentle, non-invasive, and gives you clarity.

Children's Hearing Tests FAQs

At what age should my child have a hearing test?

Children can be tested from 6 months old, but at Hearing Med we focus on kids aged 3+ who can participate in play-based testing.

What if my child doesn’t sit still or cooperate?

We’re very experienced with young children and use games and visual rewards to keep things relaxed and fun. There’s no pressure.

Are hearing tests painful or scary?

Not at all. Our tests are gentle, non-invasive and designed to feel like playtime. Most kids enjoy the experience.

How do I know if my child’s speech delay is hearing-related?

A hearing test is the best place to start. Even minor hearing loss can impact speech and language development.

Can frequent ear infections affect hearing?

Yes — chronic ear infections or “glue ear” can lead to temporary or ongoing hearing loss. We can check and refer if needed.

Do I need a GP referral for a child's hearing test?

You don’t need a referral to book with us. A doctor’s referral is only needed if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate.

Real Stories, Real Results

"She was fantastic..."

My son had 2 appointments to have deep ear wax removed by Sherin the Audiologist and both times she was fantastic. Sherin took her time and checked in to make sure he was comfortable and gave advice on how to manage the concern moving forward. I would not hesitate to use the service again if required.
